MATT OWENS
Matt Owens
Physical Therapist, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS
I grew up in a small town in North East Tennessee called Oneida. When people ask how to get there, I say, “Turn North on Hwy 27 and stop just before you get to Kentucky. I went to college at East Tennessee State University where I majored in Athletic Training. I received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. My first job was in Florence, SC as a physical therapist and athletic trainer for McLeod Regional Medical Center. I served as the Head athletic trainer for Timmonsville High School and worked with athletes at Francis Marion College while I was in SC. After five years in SC, my family and I moved to Rome in 2009. We relocated to GA, so I could become the clinic director at Advance Rehabilitation in Cedartown. After 5 years in Cedartown, I took the opportunity to once again focus of my career on Sports Physical Therapy as a PT for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in their Town Center Clinic. While at CHOA, I was given the opportunity to start a sports physical therapy clinic in Canton, GA. After 2 years at CHOA, I was asked to come back to Rome by Advance Rehabilitation. I was at Advance Rehabilitation in Rome for the past 8 years working with local patients and assisting with the rehabilitation of athletes at Berry College.

Favorite Quote: “I WILL FIGURE THIS ONE OUT LATER”
I am in Sports Physical Therapy with an emphasis on overhead athletes, return to sports training, and the performing arts.
Something patients have to deal with that I want to help with is identifying the movement limitation that causes a patient to be unable to achieve their goals and giving them the skills and encouragement they need to get past this limit. Conditions I enjoy treating are anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, shoulder instability, thoracic spine pain, medial elbow pain, and hamstring strains.
I like working here because of the opportunity to focus on the patient needs instead of the profit margin
When I’m not working, I like camping, cooking, and watching football.

Matt is top tier when it comes to his work. His attention to detail, including looking at the whole patient, allows him to get to the root of the issue and his patients have better outcomes. As someone who has had surgeries with standard protocols as well as not so normal athletic injuries, I trust Matt with the rehabilitation of any injury. I have had successful outcomes and have been enabled to be stronger and healthier than ever in sport and in life thanks to Matt. He’s the best, hands down. – Abbey Gamble
Matt Owens, my physical therapist, deserves accolades for his exceptional care and guidance throughout my recovery journey. Following surgery on my left knee in July 2023, his diligence and expertise have been invaluable. Over the past 7 months, Matt’s dedication and support have enabled me to regain strength and mobility, allowing me to return to the activities I love, such as mountain biking, snow skiing, and hiking. His tailored treatment plans and encouragement have been instrumental in my rehabilitation process, fostering both physical and emotional well-being. Matt’s commitment to my recovery has been unwavering, and I am grateful for his expertise and compassion. I would highly recommend Matt Owens to anyone seeking a skilled and caring physical therapist for their rehabilitation needs. – Dr. James (Jimmy) Douglas
I see Matt for shoulder pain with a significant limitation in range of movement. I am committed to a non-surgical approach to healing, and Matt has been completely willing to partner with me in that endeavor. Using multiple therapy modalities, including passive and active range of motion, dry needling, strength training, and others, Matt has helped me rehabilitate my shoulder from very little function to about 85% function with substantially reduced pain. I am grateful to work with a therapist who has actively listened to me, researched, and implemented different therapies to assure the best health outcome for me. – Cara Esme
