Your Questions, Answered.

Referrals, insurance, what to expect at your first visit, and what actually makes our approach different. If your question isn't here, call either office and we'll answer it directly.

Everything you want to know.

01 / Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?
No. GA gives you the right to see a physical therapist directly, no doctor's visit required first. If your specific insurance plan does require a referral, we will tell you right away and walk you through the fastest way to get one. The majority of our patients come in without a referral and have no issues with coverage.
02 / Will my insurance cover treatment?
We are in-network with most major insurance plans that most people in Rome carry. Before your first visit, we verify your exact benefits so you know what to expect, no guessing, no surprises when the bill arrives. Call us with your insurance card and we will check your coverage on the spot, usually in under five minutes.
03 / What should I expect at my first visit?
Your first visit is a full, unhurried evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, not a quick intake before someone hands you a printout. Your therapist takes a complete history, assesses how your body moves, identifies exactly where the problem is originating, and explains what is going on in plain language. You leave with a specific treatment plan and a clear answer to the question you have been carrying around: "Why does it keep hurting?"
04 / How long are sessions and how often will I come in?
Every session is one-on-one with the same Doctor of Physical Therapy. Visit frequency depends on your condition, how long you have had it, and your goals, but most patients start at two to three times per week and taper as they improve. After your evaluation, your therapist gives you a realistic timeline and visit estimate. We do not keep you coming longer than you need to, and we do not pad your plan to fill a schedule.
05 / How soon will I feel results?
Most patients notice a meaningful difference within the first three to four sessions, not a complete resolution, but enough of a change that they know something real is happening. We track your progress objectively at every visit, measuring how you move, not just asking how you feel. If something is not working, we change it immediately.
06 / What makes Shift Therapy & Wellness different from other clinics?
Shift is owned and run by the clinicians who actually treat you. Every session is one-on-one with the same Doctor of Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapist, start to finish, no aides, no handoffs. We're rated 5.0 on Google across 380+ reviews and were voted Best of Rome in both 2024 and 2025.
07 / What services does Shift Therapy & Wellness offer?
Physical therapy, dry needling, manual therapy, cupping therapy, sports rehabilitation, blood flow restriction, IASTM, occupational therapy, orthopedic therapy, personal training, spinal manipulation, and vestibular therapy. See our full services list for details on each.
08 / What treatment techniques and tools are used at Shift Therapy & Wellness?
Hands-on manual therapy and joint mobilization, dry needling, cupping, IASTM, blood flow restriction training, spinal manipulation, and progressive therapeutic exercise. Which tools we use, and when, is decided by your evaluation findings, not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
09 / How do I get started with Shift Therapy & Wellness?
Call either office or request an appointment online. No referral is required in Georgia. Your first visit is scheduled as a full evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, often within the same week.
